The three big ideas

  • A school is more than a building — it is a community of people who work together: classmates, teachers, the principal, sweepers, cooks, gardeners and the guard at the gate.
  • Each person has a job, and the school works best when everyone does their part and respects one another.
  • You belong here too, and the way you behave helps the whole group.

Everyday example. Think of one school day. What would happen if the cook, the guard or the sweeper did not come?

The mid-day meal, the safety of the gate, and a clean classroom would all be missing. Every person matters to the school.

  • Rules — lining up, raising a hand to speak, keeping the classroom clean, being on time — are not there to spoil our fun. They help everyone learn and stay safe, and good rules are fair because they apply to all.
  • Stay safe: walk in corridors, use stairs one step at a time, do not push, and drink clean water.
  • Tell a teacher at once if you feel unwell or unsafe, and learn where your line stands during a fire drill.
Common mix-up: Rules are not only for children who misbehave. They are for everyone, to keep the whole school fair and safe.
  • Good friends share, take turns, listen, and say sorry when they are wrong. Including a child who sits alone, helping someone who is hurt, and guiding a new student all make school happier.
  • Respect everyone — teachers, helpers and classmates — whatever their language, religion or abilities.
  • A child who cannot walk or see can be a wonderful friend; we help and include them, and we never tease.

Everyday example. A new student joins your class and looks shy and alone. What small thing could you do?

Just saying “hi, come and sit with us” is a tiny act that can make their whole week feel welcoming.

Making school a happy place

Class monitor for a day

Helping the teacher hand out books or keep the line straight teaches you that running a group takes teamwork.

Including everyone

Picking the quiet child for your team, or helping a friend who uses a wheelchair, makes the whole class kinder.

Knowing the safety drill

Knowing where to line up and how to leave calmly during a fire drill keeps everyone safe in a real emergency.
