Three big ideas

  • We bathe daily, brush our teeth morning and night, comb our hair and cut our nails.
  • We wash our hands with soap before eating and after using the toilet — this washes away germs.
  • We keep our clothes and surroundings clean too. Clean habits keep us from falling ill.

Think. When are the two most important times to wash your hands?

Before eating and after using the toilet — these are the times germs most easily spread.

  • We eat a mix of healthy foods and drink clean water for energy and growth.
  • We play and exercise — running, skipping and games make the body strong.
  • We rest and sleep well at night. Sleep helps us grow and keeps the mind fresh for the next day.
Common mix-up: Sitting all day with snacks and screens is not healthy. Our body needs movement, good food and proper rest.
  • Being happy is part of being healthy. Playing with friends, helping others and laughing keep the mind well.
  • It is okay to feel sad or angry sometimes. We can talk to an elder we trust about our feelings.
  • We stay safe too — crossing roads carefully, not touching fire or sharp things, and telling a grown-up if we are hurt.

Think. You feel upset after a bad day. What is a healthy thing to do?

Talk to your parent or teacher, play a little, and rest. Sharing feelings helps the sad feeling go away.

Before lunch

A quick wash with soap before eating is the simplest way to keep germs out of your food and your body.

Running and playing for a while every day keeps your heart strong and your mood happy.
