The three big ideas

  • A week has 7 days: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
  • The day that is happening now is today. The day before is yesterday; the day after is tomorrow.
  • We go to school on weekdays and rest on the weekend.

Let's try. If today is Friday, what is tomorrow?

The day after Friday is Saturday.

  • A year has 12 months, from January to December.
  • The weather changes with the seasons: hot summer, rainy monsoon, and cold winter.
  • We can tell the season by the weather and the clothes we wear.

Let's try. It is very hot and we eat ice-cream. Which season is it?

Hot weather means it is summer.

  • A clock has a short hand for hours and a long hand for minutes.
  • We split the day into morning, afternoon, evening and night.
  • Some things are quick (a blink) and some take long (a whole night of sleep).

Let's try. The short hand points to 8 in the morning. What time is it?

It is 8 o’clock in the morning — time for school!

Watch out: the short hand shows the hour and the long hand shows the minutes. Do not swap them.
