Three little ideas

  • Colour words tell us what colour a thing is: red, orange, yellow, green, blue.
  • Match them — grass is green, the sky is blue, a ripe banana is yellow.
  • Try it — name the colour of your shirt.

Name the colour. What colour is a ripe tomato?

A ripe tomato is red. Saying the colour word helps you tell about what you see.

  • A rainbow is a big curve of seven colours across the sky.
  • When we see it — after it rains and the sun comes out. Sun + rain = rainbow!
  • So pretty — the colours go in a row, one next to the other.
  • Who — the story is about a girl named Anandi.
  • What happens — she sees a rainbow, and it makes her feel happy.
  • Feelings — a story can make us feel happy, surprised or excited too.
Remember: a rainbow comes after the rain, when the sun shines through the raindrops.

Colours all around

Colouring and drawing

Knowing colour words helps you ask for the right crayon and tell about your picture.

After the rain

Next time it rains and the sun comes out, look up — you might see a real rainbow and name its colours!

Telling about things

You can describe anything by its colour — a red ball, a green leaf, a blue sky — in your own little sentences.
